Character's age: 15 (I'm afraid I've only seen the anime, so this would be after the last ep XD;)

Series: Ouran Koukou Host Club

Background:

Fujioka Haruhi is a first year student at Ouran High School, but unlike the rest of pupils that attend it, she is not in a particularly good economic position. She got accepted into it through a scholarship, since she excels in studying and is currently ranked first in her class.
Haruhi's father, Ryoji or rather "Ranka", works at an okama (cross dressing) bar. He claims he was originally bisexual, but turned into a cross-dresser after his wife, Kotoko, died. He decided he would never love another woman ever again. Haruhi should have been around 6 years old when her mother passed away and I think it's safe to say it affected her deeply. Because of this, Haruhi aspires to be a lawyer just as her mother was -- it's the reason for her relentless studying, and her desire to get into and eventual acceptance into Ouran.
Because her father has an average income, Haruhi is unable to afford Ouran's ridiculously expensive uniform. And because a neighborhood child got gum in her hair, she had to cut it rather short. She went around looking rather...boyish. So she was mistaken when she happened upon the Host Club by accident. Flustered by their behavior, she broke a highly expensive vase...and so is recruited as a host to pay off the debt.
And so started their odd journey together~ (god, I'm so tired)

Personality:

Haruhi is, perhaps above all things, a scaringly honest person. Such is her power to speak up her thoughts, whichever they are, that she sometimes fails to notice how blunt or even hurtful they may be to the people she's directing them to. Still, there's no hidden ill intentions to her words and people are usually aware of this, especially if they already know her. She can even pull it off as "cute" without even meaning to. That is one of Haruhi's abilities, and one that comes very handy for her Host Club duties. There's a certain neutrality to Haruhi that makes her able to pose as a boy without people getting too suspicious. She's not exceedingly tomboyish either, though. Haruhi is just Haruhi, a honest girl who speaks her mind and acts without any decoration and without taking sex differences much into consideration.
No matter her bluntly way of expressing opinions, Haruhi is really a sensitive and kind person who cares about understanding people and their situations. She's able to give valuable, sincere and useful insight that can ease a person's heart. These are some of the reasons she's loved and admired both inside the Host Club and out of it. It's ironic that, despite her receptiveness, she's always oblivious to any romantic feelings others may harbor for her, and of course pays no attention to any she herself could have.
